which is better, cold or dark damage?

which is better, cold or dark damage?
I was wondering which is better, a deadly cesta that does cold damage or a truncheon that does dark damage? I'm leaning towards dark damage since crafted armor can give +AL against cold but there doesn't seem to be any that gives +AL to dark.
